Graduated in Medicine cum laude (1980) at University of “G. D’Annunzio” School of Medicine, Chieti, Italy.
Postdoctoral fellow of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), Roma, Italy (1980-83) and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biochemical Sciences, Università "G. D'Annunzio", Chieti, Italy (1983-1998). Since 1984, Dr. Arduini has spent several years in various prestigious academic centers in the U.S.: Research Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, New York University, New York; Visiting Professor at Department of Toxicology, University of Southern California, Los Angeles; Visiting Professor, Cancer Research Institute, University of California at San Francisco, San Francisco; and Research Professor at Department of Medicine, George Washington University Medical Center, Washington (DC).
Dr. Arduini has several years of industry experience as head of the department of Metabolic Diseases in Sigma Tau Pharmacetical Industries, Pomezia, Italy, and as disease area head of the department of Metabolic Diseases in Hoffman-La Roche, Basel, Switzerland. These experiences have given him a unique perspective on the issues involved in drug discovery and development.
During his academic and industrial carrier, Dr. Arduini has established scientific background and experimental tools leading to the discovery of novel pathways in different fields such as oxidative stress, ischemia-reperfusion injury (cardiovascular), lipid metabolism, diabetes and obesity. He has discovered and developed new chemical entities in the metabolic and cardiovascular fields, and new crystalloid solutions in the peritoneal dialysis and transfusion medicine fields. He has an extensive experience in licensing-in activity in various therapeutic areas and orphan product development.
Dr. Arduini’s research has resulted in more than 80 peer reviewed papers, 15 international patents, and 15 book chapters and reviews. He serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and has participated as an invited speaker at more than 30 international scientific meetings.
